Are Trends Over?

Last the weekend we had the pleasure of styling a vintage inspired photo shoot and fashion show as part of UCC Fashion Week. The elegance and timeless appeal of vintage fashion has always had a fascination for us. The beauty of it is that even though fashion is constantly evolving many of these classic styles never date, not to mention the fact that designers constantly refer to the past as a source of inspiration for their collections.

Here at the art of style, our focus has always been on style over fashion, our belief that understanding your own personal style is the key to feeling great and looking good everyday.  Each season fashion dictates what we should be wearing, what the latest “must-have” items are, the colour of the season, necklines, hemlines and so on… But in recent times fashion has been much more diverse, there is no longer just one dominant look but a whole spectrum of styles that we can pick and choose from; it’s become much more about self expression.  Of course the online world, street style and blogging has had a major part to play in this, pushing the boundaries of creativity and even creating trends.  Consequently many designers now realise that women aren’t so interested in keeping up with fads but want well-made timeless pieces that flatter and that will work hard in their wardrobes.  It’s about wearing what you like and wearing it your way.  There will always be a place for fun trends and we all want to keep our individual look fresh and modern, but on our own terms.

Here are a few of our favorite looks from the vintage fashion show:
