We can never seem to escape from the subject of the weather in Ireland. Its unpredictable nature means we can often end up leaving the house with sunglasses, umbrella, jacket and suncream! A recent wardrobe clear out found me badly lacking a summer wardrobe so I decided to compile a list of wardrobe essentials for the Irish Summer. This is by no means a definitive list and probably more personal to me and my lifestyle, however it’s a capsule that covers most bases.
As we are well into the summer now, these are the items I’ve found myself pulling out again and again during the last couple of months as well as a few that I find myself needing! The reality is we don’t need a whole lot (our Winter wardrobes definitely get more use) and we should certainly be able to get a few years out of most items, or longer. The key is to start with the capsule and build from there. So here’s my list of Irish Summer essentials:
- Slim ankle length cotton trousers, plain and printed
- Lightweight cotton jeans
- Knee length skirt that can be worn with heels or flats (I love a full skirt, cool and breezy for summer)
- City shorts
- Silk vest or cami x2
- A few tops to go with all the above
- Light blazer
- Casual jacket
- Maxi skirt (or dress)
- A few summer dresses (am/pm)
- Chunky heeled sandal or wedge
- Flat sandal
- Flat shoe (pump or brogue)
- Light parka or equivalent
- Colourful accessories
Like I said this is not a definitive list and focuses on day to day smart/casual wear, not holiday or evening wear. I tend to be quite a neutral girl so don’t mind my lack of colour (apart from the blue!) I raided my wardrobe to show you a few of my favorites…
A few of my summer essentials!
